Gutter Repair Cost

If your gutters are leaking, rusting, warping, or pulling away from your home, chances are you’re in for some gutter repairs in the future. Like with any home repair, it helps to understand what types of costs you could be in for, so you can plan ahead and budget accordingly. The gutter repair cost can range fairly dramatically depending on where you live, and the condition of your current gutters.

Range of Gutter Repair Costs

Like many home repairs, it can be difficult to get an exact cost for your gutter repairs without having an estimate done. Why? There are several different factors that could affect the cost, such as:

  • Whether your gutters are galvanized steel or aluminum
  • How much of the gutters are affected by whatever the problem is
  • Where in the country you are located
  • What the exact issue is
  • How accessible your gutters are on your home

With all of these factors, it’s no wonder that the national range of gutter repair costs is so high – $200 to $1000 for a 2,000 square foot home, with the average homeowner paying around $600 for repairs.

A Percentage of Gutter Replacement

While these costs can seem a little high for gutter repairs, consider this: the national average for gutter repair costs is only 60% of the cost to completely replace the gutters on your home. That means that for the same 2000 square foot home, your range is looking somewhere in the neighborhood of $1200 to $1500 to replace the same set of gutters. Therefore if you are faced with the choice of replacing your gutters or repairing them, repairs are always going to make more financial sense in the meantime.

The one caveat to this is if you have ongoing problems with your gutters. For example, if your gutters are made of galvanized steel, they will rust over time. So if you repair one section, you could be faced with an identical repair somewhere else just one year later. Over time, your gutter repair costs could start to add up a lot higher than what it would have cost you to simply replace them the first time around. Not every set of gutters will have this issue, however, and you may be pleasantly surprised to discover that in many cases gutter repair contractors will usually repair the gutters rather than recommend a complete replacement, unless the problems are extremely widespread.

Budget for Your Gutter Repair Costs

It’s a good idea to get your gutters cleaned at least annually, and to have them inspected at the same time. If you think that your gutters may be in need of repair or replacement, be sure to call a qualified professional to come out and give you an estimate. While national averages can give you an idea of how much to budget for your guttering repair costs, they can’t give the exact amount that you’ll have to pay. Get an estimate on your guttering repairs to find out the total cost and know that your gutters are in the best shape possible.
